Longton's Dog Walking Morning

As everyone knows dogs are very welcome at The Golden Ball and it made us realise just how many dogs and dog lovers we have in the area, we take our Vizsla, Bella, for a walk anyway so we thought why not include everyone and make a Sunday morning walk more fun! We know a lot of people that take their dogs on short walks because they are not very confident about walking on their own so this is the perfect opportunity to go on a longer walk with no worries of being on your own or getting lost. We meet at the pub just before 10am for a quick brew (on the house) and set off at 10am and enjoy a wonderful circular walk around the marsh, approximately 7 miles, getting us back to the pub for 1pm ish. The best thing about the walks is the company, it’s great to have such an everyday activity now being such a social event that we really do look forward to it every month.

Our dog walking mornings are every second Sunday of the month and anyone can join us, there’s no cost and no pre booking needed. Even if you don’t have a dog but would like to join in the walk… you are more than welcome.

The Golden Ball Gets Crafty

The Golden Ball is not just about great food & drink, we love being a part of this wonderful community. Therefore we wanted to offer our gorgeous Garden room to local crafters to host their own events. We tested this with three workshops in the build up to Christmas. These included Leather purse painting with Where The Flowers Grow plus Christmas wreath making and Folk It painting onto coasters and baubles both with Vintage Crafts By Jaxs. All three workshops where a huge success and feedback was that we should make this a regular thing…. So we are doing! From January 2019 we will be reaching out to local crafters to host different workshops throughout the year, every second Sunday of the month. We will be looking to host workshops such as painting, crochet, knitting, flower arranging, pottery and more.

For more details keep an eye out on our Facebook Page. Or email info@golden-ball.co.uk

Vegan Night at The Golden Ball

Our first vegan night here at The Golden Ball was a great success. It was a night to show off our local produce, being in the heart of salad / veg growing land we knew the local produce would be perfect. In particular it was a night to celebrate mushrooms in particular thanks to our pals over at Smithy Mushrooms.

We are very big on sharing our knowledge and helping people understand that pretty much all our salad/veg is grown around us and our producers are all local.

We wanted to aim the night at both vegans and also people that simply wanted to try the quality produce grown around us.

Mal from Smithy Mushrooms was on hand to answer any questions from guests about the mushrooms, of which there were a few!

Smithy Mushrooms donated a pair of King Oysters for each guest to take home with them and test out their own recipes. If you're looking for recipe inspiration, be sure to check out Wicked Healthy, and their new Cookbook.

After talking to the guests half of them were vegan, 2 vegetarian and the rest came along simply because of their vegan friends or wanted to try something different.

Everyone had really positive feedback and have asked us to put more vegan dishes on the menus (especially mushroom ones!) so watch this space.

Here is our video of the night…
