Lively Supper Club recreation raises £1,150 for Derian House

This week, regulars of the Golden Ball came together in a historic Supper Club event that raised almost £1,150 for local charity, Derian House; through hearty food, good ale and a lively auction led by local hero, John Lavelle.

The Supper Club was reminiscent of its 1849 success. Back then, The Golden Ball made a splash in the local news when landlord, John Wilkins, threw a large party for all his friends and neighbours. The combination of good spirits, live music and delicious hot pot landed a spot in The Preston Guardian, Saturday February 24, 1849.

Playing homage to the success of this event, new landlord Chris, decided to put a new spin on an old favourite and invite guests to enjoy a 2018 version of the Supper Club. All in aid of Derian House. The live music from Connor Banks, who set the mood with rock and pop classics. The hot pot was given a sophisticated twist, with sharp presentation and delicate flavours. And the entertainment was given a heart-in-mouth adrenaline rush with an impressive 21 Lot auction that kept guests (and management) on their toes!

Local generosity scores big for Derian House

Guests of The Golden Ball were invited to donate auction prizes in a bid to raise funds for the children’s hospice. They came out in force, with business owners offering their services and regulars of the pub donating rare sports memorabilia.

The evening was led by John Lavelle, who encouraged guests to dig deep with his good humour and spirited manner. There were moments of nail biting tension and exciting bidding wars – and even a last minute donation of an extra three-course meal from Chris himself – all in good humour and for a good cause. In all, regulars of The Golden Ball raised £1,150 for the hospice. A fantastic achievement, particularly for a Monday evening down the local.

Pub manager, Chris, was thrilled with the result: “It just goes to show how the community can pull together, for something that’s really close to all our hearts. Everyone has had such a great evening and made such a difference for local children being cared for by Derian House.”
